WHAT IS IN A NAME?



The "Byerley Turk"



Our namesake, the "Byerly Turk," was the first of three founding sires that gave us the modern-day Thoroughbred. He was imported to England in the late 17th century to improve the quality of the horses available there at the time. Byerly Capital was founded with these same principles. We offer proven, but typically unavailable, strategies that historically would have increased the performance of almost any investment portfolio.


There are many different stories as to the origins of the "Byerly Turk." The one certainty is that he was the war horse of Captain Robert Byerley. Byerley, upon his return to England, mated him with what the historical record refers to as few "bred" mares. History is full of irony and this is yet another case. The most valued breed of horse in the world today originated with what was thought of as poor quality at the time.


The best investments are often a matter of circumstance. They are found outside of traditional markets and require new strategies in order to capitalize on the opportunity. Just as Robert Byerley gave us a better breed of the horse through an unexpected path, Byerly Capital provides strategies that differ from what you would normally expect when investing in Thoroughbreds.
